What Is Scan-to-BIM?
Scan-to-BIM uses registered laser-scan data as a spatial reference for developing a building information model of existing conditions.
The point cloud preserves captured geometry; the BIM process interprets and organizes selected elements according to a defined modeling scope. Not every visible point becomes a modeled object, and no universal level of detail fits every project.
Before modeling begins, teams should align on intended use, required elements, coordinate expectations, file environment, tolerances, review process and delivery requirements.
Define the physical scope, intended use, required deliverables and review criteria before capture begins. The technology should serve those requirements.
