The current Focus family shares a professional performance platform. Range changes how efficiently a team can cover the site; it does not replace capture planning, registration review or project-specific accuracy requirements.

Best suited to large structures, long exterior sight lines, infrastructure surveys, topographical mapping and stockpile volume capture.

When it fits: Choose it when extended stand-off distance can reduce scanner moves or when the project includes large outdoor environments.

Current-family specifications are summarized from FARO's 2024 Focus Laser Scanning Solution material. Maximum ranges are published for 90-percent reflective surfaces. Speed, color, accuracy and operating limits depend on FARO's stated test conditions, surface characteristics and configuration. Rental inventory and accessories are confirmed per inquiry.

Published range changes with target reflectivity: black and low-reflectivity surfaces can materially reduce usable distance. Device specifications are not a blanket promise of project or deliverable accuracy.

What determines the scanner and scan plan?

Range is only one variable. A defensible plan considers the surfaces, geometry, environment, control and final use together before fieldwork begins.

How close the scanner can be positioned to critical surfaces and whether long exterior sight lines are unavoidable.

Surface response

Dark, glossy, wet or highly reflective materials can affect range noise and usable capture distance.

The smallest relevant features, downstream measurements and modeling scope influence resolution, quality and station spacing.

Site geometry, targets, survey control and coordinate requirements shape how scan positions are connected and checked.

Published instrument accuracy is not the same as project accuracy.

FARO's 2 mm at 10 m and 3.5 mm at 25 m figures are device specifications under defined conditions. Certified Laser Scanning scopes station geometry, control, registration review and deliverable requirements around the actual decision the data must support.

Which FARO laser scanners does Certified Laser Scanning use?

Certified Laser Scanning works with FARO Focus equipment selected for the project, including established FocusS 70, S150, S350, S150 Plus and S350 Plus scanners and the current Focus Core, Focus Premium and Focus Premium Max platform.

When is a FARO FocusS 350 useful?

FARO published the FocusS 350 with a range up to 350 meters on 90-percent reflective surfaces. That extended working distance can be useful for large facilities, tall structures, infrastructure, exterior envelopes and other conditions where important surfaces cannot be approached closely.

How accurate are FARO Focus scanners?

FARO publishes 3D point accuracy of 2 millimeters at 10 meters and 3.5 millimeters at 25 meters for the FocusS and current Focus families under stated test conditions. Actual project results also depend on range, surface reflectivity, scan geometry, environmental conditions, registration, control and the required deliverable.
