The All-New FARO Focus i.1 Series: Precision Meets Productivity
The new FARO Focus i.1 and i.1 X combine rapid color capture with connected field and office workflows. The i.1 X extends the published maximum range from 200 m to 400 m on 90% reflective surfaces and includes a GNSS/RTK receiver for outdoor georeferencing. Both share the same published 3D accuracy figures. Our FARO-certified team matches the capture plan to your site and prepares the point cloud, CAD or BIM deliverables your project needs.
Our Approach
How we help your team
Our FARO-certified technicians, supported by a FARO Authorized Instructor, help you use the new Focus i.1 series for renovation, coordination and facility documentation. We start by understanding what your designers, contractors or facilities team needs to measure and how they will use the results.
We plan capture around your critical features, access and required detail, then register and review the scans in FARO SCENE. You receive the point cloud, CAD or BIM deliverables agreed with your team, with clear communication about coverage and any unresolved conditions. We confirm scanner configuration and equipment availability before scheduling your project.

Meet the new Focus i.1 series
FARO INSIGHT introduced the Focus i.1 and i.1 X on September 15, 2026, expanding its terrestrial laser scanner lineup with faster color capture and new positioning capabilities. Both models connect with the FARO tools that support fieldwork, scan processing and collaboration. The i.1 X adds a longer reach on highly reflective surfaces and a mountable GNSS/RTK receiver for outdoor positioning.
Faster capture can help when access to your site is limited, while outdoor positioning can connect exterior measurements to project coordinates. The priorities depend on your work. For a renovation, you may need openings, floor levels and structure. For an industrial retrofit, equipment locations and service connections may matter most. We plan the scans around those features and the files your team will use.
- Architects and engineers: measured existing conditions for renovation, adaptive reuse and design.
- Contractors and BIM/VDC teams: coordinated site information for model development, trade coordination and installation planning.
- Industrial owners and facility managers: equipment, service connections and surrounding geometry documented within planned access windows.
- Geospatial and infrastructure teams: exterior capture with project-defined coordinates, using i.1 X GNSS/RTK where site conditions and the control plan support it.

Focus i.1 vs. i.1 X: where the extra reach helps
On an open exterior site, the i.1 X can provide more flexibility for capturing distant, highly reflective surfaces. Its published maximum range is 400 m on a 90% reflective white surface, compared with 200 m for the i.1. The table also shows the limits for darker materials, where both models have the same published ranges.
We choose scan positions around your site's materials, access and the features you need measured. Longer reach can help across open areas. A small connection or a surface behind equipment still needs a closer viewpoint, even when it falls within the scanner's range.
The X model extends the published range on highly reflective surfaces. The dark-gray and black surface figures are the same.
White surface · 90% reflectivity
Dark-gray surface · 10% reflectivity
Black surface · 2% reflectivity
Maximum ranges from FARO’s 2026 technical sheet. Both models have a stated minimum range of 0.5 m. These figures do not describe every material or replace the accuracy and coverage checks required for a project.

Precision focused on the details your team needs
An opening, a pipe connection or the space around a machine can determine whether your design fits the site. We agree the required detail and tolerance with you, then plan scan positions and checks around those features. The review records the checks performed and any areas that could not be verified, so your team understands what it can use for design or coordination.
Both models share the published 3D accuracy figures shown above. FARO also specifies 0.9 mm object scanning accuracy at 20 m within a reduced 90° × 90° field of view, on a 1σ basis. Its 3D accuracy note adds 0.1 mm/m of uncertainty beyond 25 m. These are instrument specifications under stated conditions. We establish the tolerance for your delivered point cloud or model separately, accounting for capture, scan alignment and any modeling included in the scope.

Position your site data for the work ahead
The series' LiDAR-based localizer tracks movement between scan positions and displays the live trajectory in Stream, helping organize the field sequence. Its status indicator also shows the scanner's hardware status. The i.1 X's GNSS/RTK receiver adds georeferencing: relating measured data to real-world coordinates. That capability is particularly relevant when your exterior capture needs to connect with mapping, infrastructure or other geospatial information.
We establish the coordinate system, units and elevation reference with your project team before fieldwork. For RTK work, we also confirm correction service requirements and site conditions. Where satellite reception is obstructed, or the work continues indoors, we plan the control and scan connections needed to carry those coordinates through the project. Our review checks that the delivered data aligns with the reference your team agreed to use.

Faster color capture for busy project sites
Occupied buildings and operating facilities need a scanning plan that respects access, staff and ongoing work. Both new models include Flash technology and an Insta360 X6 PanoCam, supporting up to 120 MP color information. FARO specifies approximately 20 seconds from scan start until the scanner can be moved when using the Accelerated Profile with that camera. A shorter capture cycle can be valuable when your project requires many scan positions or has a narrow access window.
Color adds useful visual context to the measured geometry, helping your team recognize equipment and understand surrounding conditions during a digital review. We select capture settings for your required detail and plan time for setup, movement and coverage checks. In a crowded mechanical room, that includes viewpoints around equipment; across an open hall, the station sequence may be simpler. The schedule follows your site and deliverable requirements.

A connected FARO workflow, from your site to your team
Focus is the capture stage of a broader ecosystem. FARO Stream supports field tracking and pre-registration, SCENE provides processing and registration tools, and Sphere XG supports cloud processing and collaboration. Stream's overview map and 3D views help us assess coverage while access is still available. That field check can reveal an area that needs another scan before the team leaves your site.
In SCENE, we bring scans into a common coordinate system and review their alignment and coverage. Its registration tools support combinations of cloud-to-cloud matching, targets and survey control. We then prepare the agreed point cloud files or continue into CAD and BIM production. Where cloud sharing suits your team, Sphere XG offers a way to review and share captured site context; we define access and delivery requirements as part of the scope.
FARO has also announced SCENE 2027 with faster project point cloud generation and a new filter for glass and mirror reflections. Those announced improvements are forthcoming. Your proposal is based on the software and capabilities available for your scheduled project.

Why choose Certified Laser Scanning for your project?
When you hire us, you have a technical partner responsible for the full path from field planning to your agreed deliverables. Our team includes FARO-certified technicians, trainers and a FARO Authorized Instructor. That experience informs how we position the scanner, connect the scans, check the data and prepare it for your next stage of work.
We begin with your project: what you need to measure, who will use the information and when they need it. We carry those requirements through capture, registration and review, with clear communication about access, coverage and any conditions that could not be verified. If CAD or BIM is included, we define the model contents, tolerances and software requirements with you before production.
Tell us about your site, schedule and intended deliverables. We will recommend a capture approach and confirm equipment availability for your project, including the Focus i.1 or i.1 X where the configuration suits the work and is available. You receive a proposal that connects the equipment, the field plan and the output your team needs.
The new Focus i.1 series brings faster color capture and connected workflows to detailed site documentation, with additional range and GNSS/RTK positioning in the i.1 X. We help you match those capabilities to your project and carry the work through to reviewed, usable deliverables. Share your plans with our team to define the right scanning scope and confirm equipment availability.
